CODE OF CONDUCT
INTRODUCTION
Style House Fashion is an Australian lady’s fashion retailer, based in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia. Currently supplying locally within our bricks and mortar boutique, nationally and overseas.
Our vision is to be become locally, nationally and internationally recognised for our commitment to customer excellence and a well-respected member of the community of the lady’s fashion industry.
We understand that every garment we sell has an impact. We are committed to truly understanding and finding the most effective way to manage and reduce these negative impacts on the environment and our communities in which we live and sell our products nationally and internationally.
We commit to ethical trading & have association only with Suppliers and Manufacturers working within these initiatives detailed below. This code is based upon Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
- Freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
- Elimination of forced or compulsory labour;
- Abolition of child labour; and
- Elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
We commit to making a contribution on our global community and environment through responsible procurement. If Style House Fashion determine a trading partner does not have a commitment to our code, we will seek alternative supply partners or assist them to meet these code requirements.
PEOPLE & CHILD LABOUR
No use of child labour. The age for admission to employment shall not be less than the age of completion of compulsory schooling and, in any case, not less than 15 years. All our Style House Suppliers adhere to this policy.
FORCED LABOUR, INVOLUNTARY LABOUR & MODERN SLAVERY
Style House Fashion prohibits the use of any forced or involuntary labour or any form of Modern Slavery, including prison labour, slavery, servitude, debt bondage, human trafficking, and deceptive recruitment. All work shall be under voluntary conditions.
WAGES
Wages are paid weekly and on time and reflect the experience and qualifications of employees. Wages and benefits paid, shall meet and exceed the legal industry minimum standards, whichever is higher. Workers must be provided with appropriate information in their language of understanding, about their employment conditions in respect to wages before they agree on employment. Disciplinary measures around wages or unfair deductions are not permitted.
Employees must sign and complete a daily/ weekly timesheet of hours, then authorised by immediate Manager or Supervisor. Employees receive either electronically or hard copy of weekly payslips, outlining how wages are calculated, including wage rates, pay periods, tax, superannuation, bonuses and any deductions from pay.
WORKING HOURS
Hours of work comply with applicable local laws and industry standards. In any event, workers shall not on a regular basis be required to work in excess of 48 hours per week and shall be provided with at least one day off in every seven-day period. Overtime shall be voluntary, shall not exceed 12 hours per week, shall not be demanded on a regular basis and shall always be compensated at a premium rate.
NON-DISCRIMINATION
We and our Suppliers do not discriminate when it comes to recruitment, wage policy, admittance to training programs, employee promotion policy, policies of employment termination, retirement, and any other aspect of the employment relationship. Suppliers shall treat all employees based on the principle of equal opportunities, regardless of race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, pregnancy, religion, political opinion, union membership, nationality, social origin, economic situation, medical condition, or disability.
DISCIPLINARY PRACTICES
Physical abuse, threats of physical abuse, unusual punishments or discipline, sexual and other harassment, and intimidation by the employer is strictly prohibited.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
A safe and hygienic working environment shall be provided and shall exercise best occupational health and safety practices, bearing in mind the prevailing knowledge of the industry and of any specific hazards. Our Suppliers must comply with applicable national laws and standards on Workplace Health and Safety practices and management. Appropriate attention shall be paid to occupational hazards specific to this branch of the industry and assure that a safe and hygienic work environment is provided for. Effective regulations, policies and procedures shall be implemented to prevent accidents, injuries and illness and minimise health risks as much as possible. Clean, safe, and sanitary facilities and equipment shall be provided.
In the case of emergencies, the workplace must be prepared to evacuate and protect employees including:
Fire alarm and fire extinguisher are easily accessible;
- Adequate first aid equipment must be easily accessible; and
- Pregnant employees shall be educated about any potential risks that some tasks may pose.
LEGALLY BINDING EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP
Obligations to employees under labour or social security laws and regulations arising from the regular employment relationship shall not be avoided through the use of labour arrangements. All workers shall be given the opportunity to participate in education and training programs.
EFFECTIVE EMPLOYEE GRIEVANCE PROCESSES
Style House Fashion encourage and allow employees to anonymously or directly raise and address workplace grievances or unlawful activities confidently without fear of retaliation or reprisal. Complaints shall be respectfully received and evaluated promptly in confidentiality and corrective actions taken as necessary.
COMMUNITY
We are a locally owned and managed bricks and mortar business located in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia. We employee local staff, and our local community of Gladstone is of the highest importance to Style House. We align with Suppliers in our community as a preferred supplier where possible and who show commitment to their communities. Annually, we commit to sponsorship to numerous sporting and charity organisations and events.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
We choose to work with businesses who share our commitment to sustainability and preservation of the environment. We request our Suppliers to choose best technologies that reduce the negative impacts that their manufacturing has on the environment. We are committed to responsibly disposing of all waste responsibly within our business. Our Suppliers should have systems and policies in place to manage energy and water consumption, waste disposal, and take steps to reduce environmental pollution and climate impact.
ANIMAL WELFARE
Garments or products produced from animal-based materials must meet the highest ethical animal welfare standards. This must be achieved through implementation of good animal husbandry and becoming certified to selected animal welfare programs or initiatives where applicable.
